Cubs trade away son of former Cubs All-Star

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs traded Class-A outfielder Shawon Dunston Jr. to the San Francisco Giants on Thursday reportedly for a player to be named later.

In four minor league seasons, he batted. 262 with six homers, 92 RBIs and 55 steals. In 2016, he was batting .219 for Myrtle Beach.

He initially received a 1.275 million bonus out of San Jose Valley Christian after being drafted in the 11th round in 2011.

His father Shawn Dunston Sr. was a two-time All-Star for the Cubs in 1988 and 1990 and was famously known for the inspiration of the Shawon-O-Meter. Dunston's hard hard-throwing rockets from his shortstop position to Mark Grace was a fond memory for many Cubs fans in the early 90's. For his career, he batted .269 with 150 homers and 668 RBIs in 1814 games.

The son and father combo will be reunited with the Giants as his father works for them as a special assistant.
