Report: Schwarber is headed to the DL

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber is headed to the disabled list according to a tweet by Cubs.com's Carrie Muskat.

However, there is still no word on the MRI results on the ankle and knee area and whether his DL stint will be 15-days, 60-days or longer.

Minor league infielder Munenori Kawasaki may be called to the major leagues to take Schwarber's roster spot according to multiple sources.

Schwarber was carted off with an apparent left leg injury in the second inning against the Diamondbacks on Thursday night.

Center fielder Dexter Fowler and Schwarber collided together going after Jean Segura's deep fly ball to left-center field. Segura scored an inside the park homerun on the play.

According to the Cubs medical staff on early Friday morning, Schwarber has a sprained left ankle, and the initial x-rays were negative.
