Jake Arrieta was named the 2015 N.L. Cy Young Award winner after he set a career mark with 22 victories last season ... he tossed the 14th no-hitter in franchise history, August 30, 2015 at the Dodgers ... was 22-6 in 33 starts in 2015 and his 1.77 ERA (45 ER/229.0 IP) is the lowest for a Cubs qualifying starting pitcher in 96 years since 1919, when Pete Alexander had a 1.72 ERA. Received 17 of 30 possible first-place votes in the 2015 N.L. Cy Young vote, and garnered 169 points ... the Dodgers Zack Greinke was second with 147 points. Became the fifth pitcher in Cubs history to win the Cy Young Award, the first in 23 years since Greg Maddux took home the honor in 1992 ... Fergie Jenkins (1971), Bruce Sutter (1979) and Rick Sutcliffe (1984) are the others. Is 36-13 with five complete games, four shutouts and a 2.26 ERA (110 ER/437.1 IP) in 67 starts for the Cubs since he was acquired from Baltimore, July 2, 2013, with pitcher Pedro Strop and two international signing bonus slots (slot numbers three and four) for pitcher Scott Feldman and catcher Steve Clevenger. Owns a 56-38 career major league record with five complete games, four shutouts and a 3.70 ERA (327 ER/795.1 IP) in 136 career games (130 starts) in six big league seasons with Baltimore (2010-13) and the Cubs (2013-15). Has struck out 717 hitters compared to 272 walks in 795.1 career innings, an average of 8.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Made his first career Opening Day start, April 6, 2012 vs. Minnesota, with Baltimore. w Became the first pitcher in Orioles history to throw at least 7.0 shutout innings while allowing two or fewer hits on Opening Day. Named the Baltimore Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April 2010 after going 2-1 with a 1.16 ERA (5 ER/31.0 IP) and 27 strikeouts. Ranked the Orioles No. 4 prospect by Baseball America entering the 2010 campaign. Selected to the 2008 U.S. Team for the XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game in New York. Pitched 6.0 shutout innings and struck out seven to earn the win in Team USA's 9-1 victory over China in the 2008 Olympics, winning a bronze medal. Went 1-0 and did not allow a run for the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the 2007 Arizona Fall League. w Named to the AFL Top Prospects Team after leading the AFL in scoreless innings (16.0) and appearances (14). Originally selected by the Orioles in the fifth round of the 2007 Draft out of Texas Christian University. Participated in the 2015 and 2016 Cubs Caravan.
