The Chicago Cubs agreed to terms with Oklahoma State pitcher Thomas Hatch, who was their first selection in the 2016 MLB Draft.

The third round pick had a 9-3 record with a 2.14 ERA in 130 1/3 innings as a sophomore this past season. The assigned value for the 103rd pick is $573,900.

"It's a bittersweet day for me, Hatch tweeted on Monday. "As exciting it is to be able to start my professional journey with the Chicago Cubs, I close the chapter on my time here at Oklahoma State. It's hard for me to express in words what being a Cowboy means to me, but I will try my best. Stillwater was my second home as a kid. My family routinely made the trip to Stillwater to watch whatever sport was in season. I admiringly gazed down at Gallegher-Iba Arena, Lewis Field, and Allie P. Reynolds Stadium imagining Larry Reece call my name as a I stepped on to the playing surface. Fortunately for me, I was blessed with the ability to live out my dream. I graced Oklahoma State across my chest with pride for three short years. There of the best years of my life. Three years that gave me lifelong friendships, everlasting memories, and taught me invaluable life lessons. Although my time as a student-athlete is finished, I will forever be an Oklahoma State Cowboy. Thank you for the love and support!"
