Cubs News: Shota Imanaga placed on 15-day IL, righty recalled Gavin Hollowell |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Gavin Hollowell. In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Shota Imanaga has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Hollowell, 27, was last recalled on April 22 and made one appearance with the Cubs, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings without allowing a hit or a walk and striking out two batters. He has pitched in seven games with the I-Cubs this season, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.86 ERA (4 ER/9.1 IP) and 14.46 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched. He has struck out at least two batters in each of his last four outings, combining for 13 of his 15 strikeouts on the season. Hollowell last season made one relief appearance for the Cubs (1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) after he was claimed off waivers on August 23. He is 2-2 with one save, a 6.00 ERA (28 ER/42.0 IP) and 41 strikeouts in 33 career major league games, all out of the bullpen. He was selected by Colorado in the sixth round of the 2019 draft and made his MLB debut on September 19, 2022, with the Rockies. Imanaga, 31, is 3-2 with a 2.82 (14 ER/44.2 IP) and a 1.10 WHIP across eight games in his sophomore season with the Cubs. This is his first career IL stint. The Cubs play the San Francisco Giants tonight at 6:40 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
