Cubs News: Cody Bellinger injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger made one of the top defensive plays in major league baseball this season during Monday's loss against the Houston Astros.

However, it came with a price, as Bellinger walked off the field gingerly with a left knee injury.

Cubs manager David Ross gave an update on the gold-glove outfielder after the game.

“Doc checked him out — nothing major,” Ross said to the media. “We’ll see how he wakes up in the morning. He’s icing it now ... but all the checks the doc did, ligaments and things seem to be OK.”

Bellinger said he had a sense of relief after his left knee has improved since the play.

You think of the worst-case situation right away, but it's definitely not that, which is nice," Bellinger told reporters.

Bellinger will have his knee re-evaluated in the morning.

The Cubs have lost three games in a row and really don't need Bellinger to miss much time.

For the season, Bellinger has hit .271 with seven homers and 20 RBIs.
