Cubs News: Kyle Schwarber injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Kyle Schwarber will miss the remainder of the 2016 season due to full tears of his right ACL and LCL. The injury occurred during an outfield collision with center fielder Dexter Fowler in Arizona on April 7.

"Reports are very good," general manager Jed Hoyer said about Schwarber's rehab via the Chicago Tribune.

"He’s progressing very nicely. I think he’s gone from two crutches to one crutch and can walk around and stuff like that. Hopefully some of his celebrations in the dugout will seem less awkward."

"He was in good spirits," Hoyer said. "That was the first checkup since the surgery, and he was happy to get that checkup out of the way and keep progressing. The doctor was very happy with what he saw."

The Cubs anticipate a full recovery for Schwarber and should have him healthy for the start of the 2017 baseball season.

Second-year outfielder Jorge Soler has been receiving most of the playing time since the left field absence of Schwarber.

In 2015, Schwarber hit .246 with 16 home runs, 43 RBIs with an outstanding .842 OPS in only 69 games (273 at-bats) in his rookie season.
