Cubs News: Russell wore Matt Sczcur's underwear to break hitting slump |
Cubs outfielder
Matt Szczur is not on the playoff roster but is still helping his teammates during the postseason.
What if I told you a borrowed bat and a lucky pair of underwear could sway the outcome of the National League Championship Series towards the Cubs? Well, it actually happened. Szczur let Anthony Rizzo borrow his bat in game four after Rizzo broke his and Rizzo promptly smashed a homer to break out of a tremendous batting slump. During the same game, it was learned during an in-game Fox Sports One interview that Szczur let Addison Russell wear his underwear during the game and Russell was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in Game 4. Fast forward to Thursday's critical Game 5 and Rizzo continued his hot streak with a RBI double with the borrowed bat. The madness continued with Szczur's leggings on Russell's attire, and Russell hit another home run to seal the luckiness that Szczur brings to the Cubs. "It's just different ways to contribute, and I'm trying to help the team, no matter what," Szczur said.
