Cubs News: Seiya Suzuki injury update

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are fairly healthy heading into less than a week before the start of the 2023 regular season.

However, one missing piece is their starting right fielder Seiya Suzuki who was been sidelined with an oblique injury.

David Ross told reporters that Suzuki is "doing well" and is now hitting in the batting cage and some light running around the field.

“I feel really good,” Suzuki told reporters Thursday. “A lot more activities than before, and intensity-wise, I’m kind of ramping it up.”

In 2022 in his rookie campaign, Suzuki hit .262 with 14 homers and 46 RBIs.

Will Suzuki start the season on the injured list, or will he be healthy to go come to Opening Day? Nobody knows for sure, but it should be interesting to watch it all unfold.

The Cubs sent down outfielder Nelson Velazquez to Triple-A as part of a roster move on Thursday so that means that outfielder Mike Tauchman has likely made the team as a reserve outfielder.
