Cubs News: Javy Baez injury update

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Javy Baez suffered a right heel contusion in Sunday's win against the Washington Nationals. In the sixth inning, he was taken out of the game for precautionary reasons.

On Monday, he was not in the starting lineup as the team decided to not risk it with the injury from the previous day.

Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein was asked about his injury during Monday's pre-game against the Phillies.

"He is not bad," Epstein said. "I saw him in the clubhouse on a bike. He is just sore. We will just play it out. We thought it would be wise to give him the day. I think he will be available to hit if we need him to."

This sounds very promising as it was just a heel contusion and not an ankle sprain. Baez will more than likely be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

For the season, Baez is hitting .319 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs.
