
Cubs make several roster moves including Ian Happ to IL |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today selected catcher/designated hitter Moises Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa. In corresponding moves, outfielder Ian Happ has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain (retroactive to May 10) and right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. Ballesteros, 21, has appeared in 34 games with Iowa this season (22 starts at catcher, 10 starts as designated hitter, one start at first base and one pinch-hitting appearance) and is hitting .368 (50-for-136) with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs, 18 RBI and a .942 OPS. He leads all qualified Triple-A hitters in average, is seventh in OPS, 11th in OBP (.420) and 14th in slugging percentage (.522) – all of which lead I-Cubs hitters. In April, Ballesteros held a .420/.480/.648 slash line, playing in 22 of the team’s 23 games. The Los Teques, Venezuela, native has a .288 batting average, .459 slugging percentage and .830 OPS in 386 career minor league games across five seasons with Cubs Rookie League (80 games), Single-A Myrtle Beach (87 games), High-A South Bend (56 games), Double-A Tennessee (61 games) and Triple-A Iowa (102 games). He was originally signed to a minor league contract by the Cubs as a free agent in January 2021. Ballesteros will make his major league debut with his first appearance and will wear #25. He suffered the injury on Friday, May 9 at New York-N.L. Miller, 29, was placed on the 15-day injured list on March 21 with a left hip impingement. The Cubs play the Miami Marlins tonight at 6:40 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
