Cubs News: Latest on Jake Arrieta in free agency

Jake Arrieta is one of the most prized free agents in the 2017 class and different suitors are interested in the former CY Young Award winner.

The latest news from the Boston Globe is that Arrieta has five teams that are currently vying for his services.

"Five teams have reached out to Scott Boras about free agent right-hander Jake Arrieta, the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo reports," Yahoo.com said. "No concrete offers appear to be on the table just yet, but the Twins, Brewers, Blue Jays, Rockies, and Rangers have reportedly made their interest known and it’s conceivable that the Cubs would throw their hats back in the ring as well."

Arrieta rejected the Cubs $17.4 million qualifying offer a few weeks ago.

In 2017, Arrieta had a 14-10 record with 3.53 ERA, 163 strikeouts, and 1.22 WHIP. It appears very unlikely that the Cubs will be able to re-sign him because his agent Scott Boras is still looking for a massive seven-year contract with potential suitors.
