Cardinals reportedly have new positive COVID-19 cases

by - Senior Editor -

This is not good news for baseball.

According to multiple reports, the St. Louis Cardinals have more positive cases on Sunday.

ESPN's Jeff Passan posted the latest on the situation.

"The latest round of coronavirus tests from the St. Louis Cardinals are, in the words of someone with the team, "not good." There are expected to be multiple new positives, sources tell ESPN. Cardinals took more tests this morning, and results of those should arrive by tonight."

Saturday, it was reported that three staffers and one new player (reported as Carlos Martinez) had tested positive with the team. In total, three Cardinals players have tested positive since Tuesday but it might be on the rise once we hear official confirmation from MLB or the Cardinals.

The Cubs are scheduled to play the Cardinals for a three-game series next weekend starting on Friday night. Obviously, now that series might be in jeopardy depending on the severity of the outbreak within the Redbirds.

Mike Shidt told KMOX Sports that the team has been doing the best they can.

"We’ve had a lot of hard conversations, a lot of contact tracing," he said. "I can speak with a high level of confidence that our individuals in our organization have been responsible and have gone above and beyond the protocols that are in place."

Commissioner Rob Manfred said this recently to ESPN about dealing with COVID-19 and players getting sick.

“We are playing. The players need to be better, but I am not a quitter in general and there is no reason to quit now. We have had to be fluid, but it is manageable.”

We will update you when we get more information.
