Cubs News: Cole Hamels leaves Friday's game with injury |
Bad news to report for Cubs fans.
Veteran lefty Cole Hamels left Friday night's game with an injury in the second inning against the Cincinnati Reds. Hamels walked off the field after only two warm-up pitches and went straight to the locker room. Mike Montgomery will take over for Hamels. For the season, Hamels has been impressive with a 6-2 record with a 2.92 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. In six starts this month, he has a sparkling 1.22 ERA. CubsHQ will update Hamels' injury update when we get the word from the Cubs. The good news for the team is that they have some starting pitching depth with Montgomery and Tyler Chatwood if Hamels has to miss a start or two. Update: Hamels is still under evaluation but he felt something along his left side, per the Cubs. Update 2: Hamels has a left oblique strain. The Cubs will place him on the IL and do a MRI. Hamels had been pitching through something a bit ago. Had some back issues but not sure if that's what's going on here. I asked him about it a while back and he didn't give anything up.
