Cubs reduce spring roster to 47 players

MESA – The Chicago Cubs have optioned right-handed pitcher Keegan Thompson to Triple-A Iowa and assigned infielder Trent Giambrone to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 49 to 47 players.

Chicago’s spring roster of 47 players consists of 26 pitchers (which includes six non-roster invitees), four catchers (two non-roster invitees), eight infielders (two non-roster invitees) and nine outfielders (five non-roster invitees).
