Cubs News: Javy Baez makes his decision on homer run derby

by - Senior Editor -

Javier Baez was asked back to the All-Star Home Run Derby again this year but wasn't sure as he has been dealing with a sore heel bruise.

'El Mago' decided to do the safe thing and rest his body instead of participating in the fairly strenuous event according to MLB Insider Jon Heyman.

"Javier Báez had been lined up for the All-Star Home Run Derby but pulled out last night to rest his heel," Heyman posted. "So still some mystery over the final competitor or 2. Looks like a great and young field so far. Announcement tonight."

Baez is still a full-go for starting at shortstop for the 2019 All-Star game.

For the season, he is batting .285 with 21 homers and 57 RBIs.
