Javy Baez on Cubs' lack of preparation: "We weren't ready"

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs hit the proverbial wall the last few seasons after their glorious 2016 World Series title win that broke a 108-year curse.

Human nature dictates a more relaxed state after accomplishing such a historic feat.

Javy Baez told the media Sunday morning that he thinks that the Cubs have not been ready to play the last few years to start a ballgame.

"I mean, I would just get to the field, and instead of going outside and hit BP, I would do everything inside, which is not the same," he said via NBC Sports Chicago. "Once I'd go out to the game, I'd feel like l wasn't ready. I felt like I was getting loose during the first four innings, and I should be ready and excited to get out before the first pitch."

Baez thinks that the team wasn't ready to go and hopes to change that this season.

"You can lose the game in the first inning. Sometimes when you're not ready, and the other team scores by something simple, I feel like it was because of that. It was because we weren't ready; we weren't ready to throw the first pitch because nobody was loose."

Manager David Ross heard about Baez's comments and thinks it is good that Baez and others start to hold themselves personally accountable as professionals.

"The fact he's saying it publicly and holding himself accountable to you guys, and the fans is a strong message that I'm really happy he's sending."
