Cubs assign Candelario and five others to minors

MESA, Ariz. – The Chicago Cubs have assigned six players to minor league camp and granted right-handed pitcher Jim Henderson his release, reducing their spring roster from 43 to 36 players.

Right-handed pitchers Jake Buchanan and Alec Mills, and infielder Jeimer Candelario have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Three non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: right-handed pitchers Williams Perez and Dylan Floro as well as left-handed pitcher David Rollins.

Chicago’s spring roster of 36 players consists of 16 pitchers, five catchers (two non-roster invitees), 10 infielders (four non-roster invitees) and five outfielders (one non-roster invitee).
