Clayton Richard has appeared in parts of seven major league seasons with the White Sox (2008-09), Padres (2009-13) and Cubs (2015), posting a career record of 50-49 with a 4.30 ERA (390 ER/815.2 IP) ... missed the second half of 2013 and most of 2014 after undergoing left shoulder surgery in June of 2013. In a three-season span from 2010-12 with San Diego, Clayton twice won 14 games (2010 and 2012), led the N.L. with 33 starts in 2012 and posted a sub-4.00 ERA in all three campaigns ... he combined to go 33-32 with a 3.88 ERA (224 ER/520.0 IP) in 84 starts during that stretch. Participated in the 2008 MLB Futures Game at Yankee Stadium. Originally drafted by the White Sox as an eighth-round selection in the 2005 Draft. Attended the University of Michigan where he played football and baseball ... earned Big Ten all-academic honors in 2004 as a backup quarterback ... was a 2003 graduate of McCutcheon High School in Lafayette, Ind.
