Chicago Cubs announce tentative 2021 schedule

by -

CHICAGO – Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs today announced the tentative 2021 regular season schedule. The Cubs will open their 146th season against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, April 1 at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs are scheduled to begin the 2021 campaign at home for the second year in a row (including this year’s 2020 opener vs. Milwaukee) and will host the Pirates in their Wrigley Field opener for the third time in the last four years. The Cubs have not opened consecutive seasons at Wrigley Field since 2011-12.

After three games vs. the Pirates (April 1, 3-4), the Cubs conclude a season-opening six-game, seven-day homestand with three games against the Milwaukee Brewers (April 5-7). The Cubs then embark on their first road trip of the year to face the same two clubs, as their six-game, seven-day trek includes a pair of three-game series at Pittsburgh (April 8, 10-11) and Milwaukee (April 12-14). Overall, the Cubs are scheduled to open their campaign by playing 15 of their first 21 games at Wrigley Field.

The schedule also features interleague play against the American League Central, including the annual home-and-home with the Chicago White Sox, which features a pair of three-game series from August 6-8 (at Wrigley Field) and August 27-29 (at Guaranteed Rate Field).

In addition to the White Sox games, the Cubs interleague schedule includes hosting three A.L. Central opponents: the Cleveland Indians (two games, June 21-22), Kansas City Royals (three games, August 20-22) and Minnesota Twins (two games, September 21-22). The Cubs also travel to Cleveland (two games, May 11-12), Detroit (three games, May 14-16) and Minnesota (two games, August 31-September 1).
