Cubs signing Jake Arrieta to one-year deal |
The Chicago Cubs will be bringing back one of their favorite sons.
Veteran Jake Arrieta is signing with the Cubs on a one-year guaranteed deal worth $6 million on Friday. MLB insider Jon Heyman said that Arrieta had higher offers from other teams but wanted to get back with the Cubs. The deal is pending a physical. The signing of Arrieta will be a solid addition to the backend of the Cubs rotation if he can stay healthy. During his time with the Cubs (2013-2017), Arrieta was 68-31 with a sparkling 2.73 ERA. In the shortened 2020 season, the 34-year-old had a 4-4 record with a 5.08 ERA in nine starts. However, he was solid in his final three starts in September with a 3.00 ERA, 14 strikeouts, and 1.44 WHIP. Arrieta had higher offers elsewhere but loved the idea of a reunion with the Cubs, and pursued it https://t.co/o08s3iYNQC

89 Seconds of Jake Arrieta being the Most Dominant Pitcher on the Planet (1st no-hitter/2015). ??????
We'll see what Arrieta has in the tank but since 2018, only 5 (qualified) starters have had a ground ball rate over 50%:
