WATCH: Highlights of Cubs-Nationals thriller, including Bote's walk-off

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Going yard for a pinch-hit grand slam, David Bote accrued the dream scenario for any batter by providing his team with a walk-off win with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Down to their final out, as well as their final strike, the Chicago Cubs (68-49) were bailed out by Bote in thrilling 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals (60-58).

Although they wound up taking the rubber match from the Nationals, the Cubs trailed for the most of the game, as Washington starting pitcher Max Scherzer dominated in his seven-inning outing. However, the Cubs rallied off Nats reliever Ryan Madson in the bottom of the ninth and overcame a 3-0 deficit in the most dramatic way possible.
