Bears place two stars on IR, make more roster moves

Tough news for Bears fans.

The Chicago Bears announced on Tuesday that they have placed standout receiver Darnell Mooney and veteran safety Eddie Jackson on the injured reserve.

Mooney was injured in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Jets while blocking on a run play for David Montgomery.

Mooney led the team for the season with 40 catches for 493 yards and two touchdowns.

"You hate to see for us offensively a guy like 'Moon' go down," said tight end Cole Kmet. "Just a bright vibrant guy in the huddle and obviously a big playmaker. So when you lose him, it's tough, for sure."

He was drafted by the Bears in the fifth round of the 2020 draft.

Jackson was also injured during the Jets game, in which he hurt his foot on a 54-yard touchdown reception by rookie receiver Garrett Wilson.

He had four interceptions in 12 games this season and is currently the leading vote-getter among NFL free safeties for the Pro Bowl.

In addition, the team has promoted rookie safety, A.J. Thomas, to the active roster from the practice squad.

In five seasons at Western Michigan, he had 221 tackles, 16.5 tackles-for-loss, 3.0 sacks, and two interceptions. He was an undrafted free agent and has been on the practice team all season.

The Bears also signed safety Adrian Colbert to the practice squad.

He was a seventh-round pick out of Miami in 2017.

The Bears (3-9) host the Packers (4-8) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
