Cubs coach reportedly returning in same role

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde will return to the North Side under the same role in 2019 according to multiple reports on Friday.

Hyde had interviewed for managerial gigs as he was a reported finalist for at least four jobs including the Rangers, Blue Jays, Angles, and Twins.

He has been with the Cubs since 2014 as a bench coach this past season and in 2014 with Rick Renteria and also a first base coach from 2015-2017.

It appears that the Cubs might have a much different look and feel in 2019 with the dismissal of Chili Davis but at least they will have the combo of Maddon and Hyde for at least one more season during their Championship window.
