With the 2023 minor league baseball season just around the corner, the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have finalized their roster on Tuesday.

The Smokies have a promising group of players that are looking to make an impact and prove their worth.

One player who will surely be in the spotlight this season is outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, who is currently ranked as the top prospect in the Cubs’ system. Crow-Armstrong was a first-round draft pick in 2020 and has been making waves since joining the Cubs’ organization. Known for his elite defense and speed, he is an exciting player to watch and could potentially make his way up to the major leagues in the near future.

The Smokies’ pitching staff also boasts some impressive talent, with left-hander Jordan Wicks and right-hander Ryan Jensen expected to take the mound for the team this season.

Wicks, ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the Cubs’ system, was a first-round draft pick in 2021 and has already shown his potential with an impressive debut season in the minors. Jensen, a first-round pick in 2019, has a fastball that can reach up to 100 mph and has been steadily improving in the minors.

In the outfield, the Smokies have some promising players in Owen Caissie and Jordan Nwogu.

Caissie, a second-round pick in 2020, is a left-handed hitter with a powerful swing and a strong arm. Nwogu, a third-round pick in 2020, is a switch-hitter with a knack for getting on base and has shown flashes of power as well.

Behind the plate, the Smokies will be relying on catcher Miguel Amaya, who is currently ranked as the No. 9 prospect in the Cubs’ system. Amaya has a strong arm and is an excellent defensive catcher, and he has also shown some pop in his bat.

Overall, the Tennessee Smokies have a promising roster heading into the 2023 season. With a mix of top prospects and seasoned veterans, the team is poised to make some noise in the Double-A ranks and provide Cubs fans with a glimpse of the future of their beloved team.

It will be exciting to see how this talented group of players develops over the course of the season and beyond.
