Willson Contreras is a pending free agent as soon as the MLB offseason starts.
However, that doesn't mean that the Cubs have given up hope that Contreras remains a Cub. “We’ll obviously make him a qualifying offer and we’ll continue that dialogue,” Hoyer said during his press conference Tuesday. “We’ve talked to Willson. We’ve talked to his representatives. The qualifying offer will be worth around $19 million, and if he rejects it, the Cub will receive draft compensation. “I had a great conversation with Willson the other day," Hoyer said. "We've always had a really good relationship. I admire how he competes, and I admire the passion." For the season, Contreras hit .243 with 22 homers and 55 RBIs. "He's gone, for sure.
