PITTSBURGH — The Chicago Cubs (32-22) kicked off their four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates (15-39) with a shutout win. Blanking the Pirates 5-0 at PNC Park on Monday, the Cubs benefited from a bounce-back performance by left fielder Kyle Schwarber, who hit two doubles after being benched in Sunday's game.

Left-hander Jon Lester started on the mound for the Cubs and tossed six scoreless innings. Schwarber scored the game's first run thanks to a surprise two-out bunt by Javier Baez. Late in the contest, Schwarber drove across two insurance runs via a two-out double. He went 2-for-4 on the evening.
