WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' shutout defeat of Royals |
CHICAGO — A solid pitching performance by Alec Mills, Kris Bryant's first home run of the season and some masterful defensive plays by Javier Baez and David Bote highlighted the 2-0 Chicago Cubs (8-2) victory on Monday. The Cubs blanked the Kansas City Royals (3-8) on a blustery night at Wrigley Field.
Mills tossed seven scoreless innings and was credited with the win. A fantastic no-look tag from Baez and a couple of impressive throws across the diamond from Bote helped Mills' efforts. At the plate, Baez drove home the Cubs' first run with a sacrifice fly, and Bryant's solo shot registered the Cubs' second run.
