Cubs News: David Bote leaves game after getting hit in head by pitch |
Cubs utility infielder
David Bote was hit in the head by a 0-2 pitch by Madison Bumgarner in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Giants.
The baseball hit Bote in the back of the helmet in his unlucky first spring at-bat of the year. Bote went to one knee and then walked off the field with help from the Cubs trainer Matt Johnson and manager Joe Maddon. Bote would not return to the game and was replaced by Ryan Court. Bumgarner felt bad after the game and told reporters the following. "I am sorry for it," he said about the injury. "That's terrible, that sucks." The Giants team doctor inspected Bote after the game and reportedly no serious injury was found. Bote is now headed back to Mesa for a full evaluation. The Cubs expect to have an update for the media on Monday morning.
