Cubs activate Cole Hamels, option reliever

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated left-handed pitcher Cole Hamels off of the paternity list. Right-handed pitcher James Norwood was optioned to Triple-A Iowa following last night’s game. Hamels will make the start for the Cubs tomorrow afternoon when they continue their three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.

Hamels, 35, is 7-4 with a 3.73 ERA (50 ER/120.2 IP) in 22 starts with the Cubs this season.

Norwood, 25, has gone 3-2 with six saves and a 4.28 ERA (26 ER/54.2 IP) in 43 relief outings with Iowa this year. He tossed a scoreless inning of relief vs. Cincinnati during a previous major league stay on May 24.
