CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. off of the 10-day disabled list. Right-handed pitcher Dillon Maples has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Additionally, left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny has been activated off of the 10-day disabled list and optioned to Iowa.

The 26-year-old Edwards was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 30 with right shoulder inflammation. Maples, 26, has gone 2-2 with five saves and a 3.20 ERA (9 ER/25.1 IP) in 26 relief outings with Iowa this season. He has no record and a 16.88 ERA (5 ER/2.2 IP) in two big league relief appearances this year.

Zastryzny, 26, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a back strain on June 24. He is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA (1 ER/5.1 IP) in five relief outings with the Cubs this year and 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA (15 ER/35.0 IP) in 18 relief appearances with Iowa, including one Triple-A rehab outing last night in Nashville (1.0 IP, 0 R).
