Dusty Baker reportedly in the mix for Cardinals job

by - Senior Editor -

The St. Louis Cardinals dismissed manager Mike Matheny after Saturday's loss against the Reds.

"Mike Matheny has served the St. Louis Cardinals organization with tremendous dedication and pride and I am thankful for his service to the Cardinals over the past six and a half seasons," stated Cardinals' Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Bill DeWitt, Jr. "On behalf of the entire Cardinals organization, I would like to wish Mike the very best."

It now appears that there are a couple candidates that could get the eye of the Cardinals management.

According to the New York Daily Post, some early options are Joe Giraldi, Carlos Beltran, and Dusty Baker.

"St. Louis is said to have an uneasy clubhouse and Baker has been known as one of the best at unifying and uplifting players," New York Daily post wrote.

The majority of Cubs fans would embrace a hire of Baker as the new manager of the Cardinals as it would add a very unique twist to the rivalry.

Baker has a 1,863-1,636 record during his managerial career and has been named NL Manager of the Year three times (1993, 1997, 2000).
