Cubs News: Report: John Lackey headed to the DL

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs veteran John Lackey is headed to the 10-day disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his right foot on Thursday according to multiple reports.

Lackey just pitched on Wednesday and was not expected to pitch until the Atlanta series after the All-Star break at the earliest.

He told reporters after the game that he was dealing with the foot problem.

“I’m 38 years old. I’m bothered by a lot of things," Lackey complained. He will be examined by the team doctors today and they will determine treatment and the estimated timetable that he will be out.

In 2017, Lackey has a 5-9 record with 5.20 ERA, 86 strikeouts, and a high 1.33 WHIP. He has given up an astonishing 24 homers on the season.

The Cubs are expected to recall Kyle Schwarber to take Lackey's spot on the ballclub.
