Arrieta on MLB brawl: "I like my chances toe to toe with anybody" |
The baseball world was shocked after watching superstar Bryce Harper charge the mound against pitcher Hunter Strickland after it appeared that he threw a 98 MPH fastball on purpose.
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta was on 670 the Score on Tuesday afternoon and had some interesting thoughts on the brawl. "I don't think anybody's right or wrong," Arrieta said on the brawl. "I thought it was awesome." Arrieta relayed that he texted former teammate Jeff Samardzija, "that was awesome." The former CY Young winner said during the interview that he thought that his catcher Willson Contreras is too fast and would beat any batter to the mound. However, Arrieta is not worried if he ends up in a fight with a batter. "If it's my catcher, I want him to wait and give me an opportunity to do a little damage," Arrieta said. "I don't want it broken up right away. If it happens, I'll let you know. I'll be ready. You know, I like my chances toe-to-toe with just about anybody." In 2017, Arrieta has a 5-4 record with an ERA of 4.92 with 64 strikeouts and 1.36 WHIP.
