It's almost time for the regular season!
Cubs manager David Ross spoke to the media Saturday afternoon and shared that infielder David Bote will be the starting second baseman on Opening Day. Cubs youngster Nico Hoerner will be sent down to Triple-A Iowa to begin the season. Ross said the demotion had nothing to do with Hoerner but rather that Bote won the competition. "It's David Bote's turn," he said. I think David had been hearing the message a long time that it's someone else's turn. So now David gets an opportunity." This makes sense as Hoerner doesn't need sporadic at-bats during the start of the season watching Bote play. Bote is batting .316 (12-for-38) with three homers and 8 RBIs this spring. Sogard will be the back-up second baseman during the early portion of the regular season.
