Chicago Cubs starting shortstop
Addison Russell has reaggravated the plantar fasciitis in his right foot according to Thursday's MRI and will be out at least three weeks.
Russell went to Triple-A Iowa on rehab this week when he re-injured his foot. He had not played since August 2 at the big league club and the Cubs hope that he will be ready for the playoffs if the team makes it in. In 2017, he is batting .241 with 10 homers and 36 RBI. For his short MLB career, he is a .240 hitter with 44 homers, 185 RBI, and .312 on-base percentage. Javy Baez will get the majority of starts at shortstop in the foreseeable future. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said the following after Thursday's win. “I really believe we have to keep Javy well," Maddon said. "We really have to protect Javy...I have to give him a day off now and then.”
