Cubs News: Carlos Gonzalez reportedly placed on waivers |
The Chicago Cubs have placed Carlos 'Cargo' Gonzalez on waivers on Saturday according to multiple reports. If nobody claims him, the team would like for him to go to Iowa. If he doesn't accept the assignment, he would be a free agent.
Last night, the 33-year old veteran received hugs and handshakes from teammates in the dugout as the word was getting out that he was longer on the roster. For the season, Gonzalez was batting .200 with 3 homers and 10 RBI. The last seven days he had limited opportunities with only six at-bats going hitless with two walks and a run scored. It was a low-cost move as he was paid a pro-rated league minimum and the veteran just didn't spark the ballclub offensively like they needed. It was worth a shot as their other option would have been likely Mark Zagunis. The Cubs are expected to make at least two roster moves to add some pitching depth today before Saturday's game against the Reds. Rowan Wick and Dillon Maples could be two pitchers that could bolster the tired bullpen. CarGo has been put on waivers by Cubs. if he clears, they’d like for him to go to minors for them. Would be his call. I'm pretty sure the Braves feel like Carlos Gonzalez can no longer hit a fastball.
He's seen 10 pitches today, all fastballs.
That's about as indicative as it gets the veteran may be cooked if that is the advanced scouting report on him.#Cubs
