Cubs News: David Ross gives updates on Cody Bellinger, Kyle Hendricks

The Chicago Cubs have not played well lately, as they are in the middle of a three-game losing streak.

Cubs manager David Ross has been under some scrutiny because of the Cubs' recent slump as they have played some tough teams in the Twins and now the Astros.

Ross was asked on the Bernstein & Holmes Show on Tuesday afternoon for an update on standout outfielder Cody Bellinger after a spectacular catch and subsequent injury forced him out of Monday's game against the Astros.

“I think he’s going to be all right,” Ross said. “He checked out from the doc OK (Monday) night. It didn’t seem like anything was major. I know he’s got a little bit of soreness today. He’s going to try to work out and see how much he can go when we get to the field today and get him some treatment. But a little bit stiff this morning, obviously.”

Bellinger said he felt relieved after his left knee has improved since the incident.

"You think of the worst-case situation right away, but it's definitely not that, which is nice," Bellinger told reporters late Monday night.

For the season, Bellinger has hit .271 with seven homers and 20 RBIs.

Ross was also asked about the recent rehab and status of Kyle Hendricks, who looks close to returning to the Cubs starting rotation.

“Kyle is working his way back,” Ross said. “He's going to throw a bullpen with us, still getting him built back up. I think just refining his last outing was good. The numbers looked good. Just getting him on a consistent pattern of success and just having him built up his pitches, it’s kind of the path we’re on.”
