Cubs News: David Ross on Craig Kimbrel's outing: 'Looked sharp'

The Chicago Cubs will have to shore up their bullpen if they want to make a serious run in 2020.

The main component to have an elite bullpen is a dominant closer, so a lot hinges on getting veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel back to his old self.

During Friday's 4-3 loss to the Brewers, Kimbrel pitched a shutout inning and showed some progress compared to his previous outings this season.

"He looked really good," Cubs manager David Ross told the media Friday night. "I've been trying to find a spot for him, and the feedback has been great every time I talk to the pitching guys and his bullpens and the work he's put in. I think you saw that tonight. The ball was exploding out of his hand really well. Some bad swings. Looked sharp."

For the season in only 3.2 innings, he has given up six hits and seven runs (17.18 ERA).
