Cubs News: Jon Lester wants David Ross in the All-Star game

by - Senior Editor -

Veteran pitcher Jon Lester is having an impressive year for the Cubs while his teammate David "Grandpa" Ross has been playing well in his final year before retirement.

Lester tweeted on Thursday afternoon that he wanted Cubs fans to vote David Ross as a write-in option for the 2016 All-Star game in San Diego.

For the season, Ross is batting .260 with four homers, 17 RBIs with a .348 on-base percentage in 94 plate appearances. However, the statistics do not tell the entire story as he has also been a positive clubhouse presence with the younger Cubs players and has played extremely well defensively.

The voting will end on Thursday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Fans can vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 times.
