Cubs News: Maddon says you shouldn't 'dry hump' a tired pitcher

by - Senior Editor -

The NLCS series has been wild the first two games as Cubs manager Joe Maddon used veteran starter John Lackey instead of his elite closer Wade Davis against the Dodgers on Sunday night.

Maddon tried to explain his mindset not using Davis but it was rather sexual in nature.

"When a guy is throwing too much, it's very important not to dry hump him as the saying goes," Maddon explained. "Get him up and back down and bring him back later. So I wasn't going to do that."

Basically, that is Maddon's reasoning why Lackey was in the game instead of Davis in last night's walk-off homer by Justin Turner.
