Cubs reliever gets heart procedure |
MESA - The Chicago Cubs today released the following statement in regards to left-handed pitcher
Brad Wieck.
"During the club's routine pre-participation examination by Head Team Physician Dr. Stephen Adams, Brad Wieck was found to be in an abnormal heartbeat on EKG. Subsequent evaluation revealed that Brad had an intermittent 'atrial' flutter,' an abnormal conduction of the heart. "Under consultation with our cardiologist, it was advised for Brad to undergo a cardiac ablation to prevent recurrence of the atrial flutter. The ablation was successfully performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Monday morning and Brad returned to Arizona yesterday. Brad will rest and rehab for the next week and be evaluated further to establish a timeline for resumption of pitching activities towards the end of next week."
