The Chicago Cubs have traded catcher Luis Torrens to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations on Wednesday.

Torrens made the Opening Day roster for the Cubs and had five hits out of 20 at-bats with three RBIs during the early stages of the 2023 season.

The Cubs DFA's him last week.

With the recent callup of rookie Miguel Amaya, the Cubs still have three catchers on the roster with him and veterans Tucker Barnhart and Yan Gomes.

After spending the last two seasons with the Mariners, Torres signed with Chicago as a minor league free agent in January.

Torrens was selected second overall in the 2016 Rule 5 Draft by the Cincinnati Reds from the New York Yankees before being acquired by the Padres shortly after.

A native of Venezuela, he was initially signed by the Yankees as an international free agent in 2013.
