Kyle Schwarber on upcoming roster turnover by Cubs

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are certainly going to be big movers before the trade deadline after their 11-game losing streak cemented that strategy.

Former Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber was not re-signed before the season for a mere $8 million for 2021.

Schwarber has had a career first half of the season, hitting 25 dingers which is fourth-best in the majors.

Schwarbs recently spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times and asked if it would be hurtful to see some of his former teammates being traded at the deadline.

"Yeah, man, it kind of would,” he said. “But you know what? I don’t even worry about the guys. I know that the fans will be hurt probably, but this is the business side of baseball. I got a taste of the business side of baseball, too. But the guys, who are my friends, they’re going to be just fine. They’re going to be great baseball players wherever they go, and I think that’s the biggest thing.”

Schwarber understands that it is tough to win multiple World Series and become a dynasty.

“It wasn’t like we were satisfied we won the World Series,” Schwarber said. “We wanted to keep going. The guys the Cubs might not keep. They did really good, special things in Chicago and made Chicago baseball a hot commodity. I think people get caught up in ‘we should’ve won more World Series.’ Look at the Dodgers: They just won their first one. These guys did special things in Chicago, and it was damn fun for me to be a part of it.”

It certainly should be interesting as the Cubs traded away Joc Pederson on Thursday night and more moves are likely to be made shortly.
