CHICAGO — Legendary Chicago Bears running back Gale Sayers passed away at the age of 77 on Wednesday, and the Chicago Cubs paid tribute to the Hall of Famer. Even with the Cubs playing on the road on Wednesday, the franchise posted a message honoring Sayers on the Wrigley Field marquee.

In addition, the Cubs' social media team tweeted photos of Sayers' experiences at the Friendly Confines over the years, including the left-hander throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Sayers played his entire NFL career, which spanned from 1965-71, with the Bears, and all but the 1971 season saw the Bears play their home games at Wrigley Field during that time.
