Maddon announces Cubs' pitching rotation

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon announced his pitching rotation for the start of the season on Thursday. Veteran pitcher Jon Lester will go first, followed by Jake Arrieta, John Lackey, Brett Anderson, and lastly Kyle Hendricks.

Brett Anderson is the newcomer in the rotation, and he signed as a free agent this past offseason after being with the Dodgers. He has a 3.86 ERA (294 ER/685.2 IP) with a 38-43 record, three complete games, one shutout and three saves in 127 career games.

"Everybody's always concerned about pecking order regarding who you perceive to be best or least best," Maddon said to reporters. "It's just more or less balancing it out. I don't even know how important that is either. Some teams only have righties -- you see righty, righty. Is that a benefit to the other side? I don't know. We're just going to do that to break it up a little bit."
