Montgomery signs pre-arbitration contract with Cubs |
Monty just got a nice raise.
Cubs pitcher Mike Montgomery has reportedly agreed to a one-year guaranteed deal worth $2.44 million with the Cubs which was higher than his MLBTR estimate. He will be under team control until after the 2021 season. His MLBTR salary projection was $3.0 million. Montgomery made $611,250 last season. The move was made to avoid arbitration for both sides and today at 12 p.m. CT was the deadline for new salaries for arbitration-eligible players including Cubs players Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, C.J. Edwards, Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Hendricks, and Addison Russell. The lefty part-time starter (19 starts) had a 3.99 ERA with 86 strikeouts and a 1.37 WHIP last season. For his career, he has a 3.60 ERA with three saves, 342 strikeouts, and a 1.29 WHIP. Cubs teammates Kyle Hendricks and Kyle Schwarber have signed deals with the Cubs earlier in the day.
