Roster Moves: Cubs activate two righty pitchers from 10-day IL

MINNEAPOLIS – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitchers Dillon Maples and Adbert Alzolay from the 10-day injured list. The active roster currently stands at 28 players.

Maples, 29, landed on the 10-day injured list, July 29, with a right middle finger blister. The right-handed pitcher is 1-0 with a 2.28 ERA (7 ER/27.2 IP) in 24 outings out of the Cubs bullpen this season. He has walked 19 and stuck out 36, good for an average of 11.7 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched and has held opponents to a .132 average (12-for-91), which is the second-lowest average against among major league relievers (min. 90 batters faced).

Alzolay, 26, was placed on the 10-day injured list, August 14, with a left hamstring strain. The right-handed pitcher is 4-13 with a 5.16 ERA (61 ER/106.1 IP) and 107 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .239 average (96-for-401) in 21 starts for the Cubs this season.

Alzolay made one rehab start for Triple-A Iowa on August 25, allowing four runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings.
