WATCH: Anthony Rizzo hits rare bloop ground-rule double that plates run

CHICAGO — As part of a 4-run fifth inning for the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo came through with an unorthodox ground-rule double. While ground-rule doubles are not often bloop hits, Rizzo hit a bloop 2-bagger down the left-field line that plated third baseman Kris Bryant and pulled the Cubs to within one run of the Atlanta Braves.

Making the score 6-5 at Wrigley Field, Rizzo tabbed his 13th double of the year on an opposite-field hit that was just fair in shallow left. After descending onto the outfield grass, the baseball quickly bounced into the seats, giving Rizzo a ground-rule double. The hit off Braves starting pitcher Bryse Wilson provided Rizzo with his 56th RBI of 2019.
