WATCH: Bryant cites fans, weather as inspirations for walk-off home run

by - Senior Writer -

After hitting a walk-off 3-run homer to give the Chicago Cubs a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, superstar Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant had an inspiration response in his postgame press conference when asked about his motivation for hitting the walk-off blast.

"Who wants to come to sit through a 3 1/2-hour baseball game when it's 35 degrees out?" Bryant rhetorically asked the media. "Cubs fans. That's who."

Paying homage to the loyal Cubs fans in attendance at the Friendly Confines on the bitter night in the Windy City, Bryant revealed that he was particularly motivated to end the game with a walk-off in the ninth, as opposed to allowing the game to extend into extra innings and thereby prolonging the Bleacher Bums' exposure to the cold.

"We can't say enough about them," Bryant said when elaborating on what the Cubs' faithful supporters mean to him and his teammates. "They show up. They're there cheering us on, and, as a player, I truly appreciate that."
